The pair of shoes, that have been with me for several years on four continents & tens of thousands of miles, are now overly traveled & have been handed to the Seattle Guitar Circle to do with them what they will. Happy Gigster shoes I…

Drummer Bill has called & is on the way for lunch.

16.23    A walk down to Bulldog News to get the Weekend FT for in-flight traveling on Monday. Back to meet Brother Bill for nearby Mexican tastinesses now that Flowers vegetarian restaurant seems to be closed. Catching up on arising issues of common interest. Bill is faced with packing to move house, while off to New Orleans tomorrow to record with REM.

Back to a gentle afternoon with some reading in the Hotel Tully’s.

vista redundancy
:: Posted by andrew on October 27, 2009
With Windows 7 being released, I wonder if RF has any regrets at being involved in Vista, which instead of being a quantam leap forward, seems to be universally regarded as a big flop from Microsoft. cheers andy from OZ

The person who invited me to work on Vista was my longtime pal & Brother Of Many Adventures, Steve Ball; the student who saw KC on The Drive To Carbondale tour of 1981. The DGM knotwork, and the knotwork on the GC site, were both designed by Steve. If Steve had asked me to do this pro bono, for a small company of his own about to launch, I would have happily done so. Instead, I went into The Beast of Redmond in the earlier stages of Vista programming & saw many of the features that were not included in the final launch; features which, of necessity, had to be put aside. Vista as originally planned would have been a great leap forwards for PC users. Steve has told me that the sounds & splashes from Vista will also be included in Windows 7. So, they will likely soon be among the most sounded sounds on the planet.

Regret? Why? I got to work with Steve, in one of the most professionally demanding & challenging contexts of my career, and I was paid for my work. I note that, when working inside the music industry, getting paid is not something I can rely upon.

Pal Steve was at The OCG show on Thursday.
